Cross Copy Weekly: Aug. 5, 2016

welcome backFirst Day!

Thursday, August 11 – All students who are NEW to LHSN should report for orientation by 7:45, with their iPad and wearing their school uniform (from Fischer’s). After receiving schedule and locker info, they will go on a scavenger hunt, meet their Peer Ministers, go to all of their classes (for 12 minutes each), and learn about all kinds of extra-curricular activities. After lunch and an ice cream social, students will hear information that will help make them successful at LHSN. Students can bring lunch from home, purchase food with cash, or purchase a meal card (see Reminders below). Orientation day ends at 1:30.

Friday, August 12 – The 2016-2017 academic year begins! ALL students should come in uniform, check the lists in the main hallway for their small group assignment, and report to that room by 7:55 (when the first bell rings). They will receive their complete schedule, attend the opening worship service with installation of new teachers, and then go to all eight classes. The school day ends at the normal time of 3:00.

onCampusonCampus Login Instructions

We have a Learning Management System called onCampus that allows us to communicate efficiently with our students and families. Parents and students are able to view their classes, including assignments; see grades and attendance; get sports game and practice schedules; and access many other items. Students use onCampus daily. We encourage parents to visit the onCampus website daily, as well, to stay up to date on what is happening with your student and at school.

Returning parents should use the same login for onCampus as last year. (If you do not remember it, please follow the instructions below.) There is a link to onCampus on the school website – Click on MY LHSN at the top of the home page.

To log into onCampus for the first time:

•  Go to https://lhsastl.myschoolapp.com and click on the “Forgot login or First time logging in?” link (below the login window).

CTA recording '16-2Recording Artists

For the second consecutive year, Crusader choir members were asked by CTA (Christian Tools of Affirmation), Inc. in Fenton to participate in making an original recording. CTA writes an annual Christmas service and composes an original Christmas song and then makes them available to churches to use in their ministry.

This year, the beautiful voices of Paige Liszewski (Jr.), Heather Meyer (LN ’15), Jenna Fackler (LN ’16), Lily Kate Burreson (Jr.), Dallis Johnson (Sr.), and Alexa Halliburton (Jr.), pictured left to right, will be heard in many churches all over the world through this recording. The girls thoroughly enjoyed their time in the studio last May. You can hear the finished product using this link.

jessicaCongratulations, Jessica!

Jessica Molden (sophomore) recently received a scholarship for an essay she wrote about the significance and importance of having a police officer for a parent. The scholarship was awarded by the St. Louis Police Wives’ Association and the Margaret Hacker Scholastic Assistance Program. Jessica, along with the other recipients, was honored at a celebration dinner on July 21. We’re proud of you, Jessica.

Kudos – Girls’ Soccer Team!

DSC_0009Congratulations to the Crusader Girls’ Soccer Team on receiving the Gold Award from the Lutheran All-American Association (LAAA) for completing the entire 2015-16 season without receiving either a yellow or red card.

Only seven girls’ soccer teams from among the nearly 200 Lutheran high schools in the USA and Canada received the Gold Team Ethics Award.  This honor is awarded annually to recognize teams based on activity during their high school season. Recipients are commended for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior, and adherence to the laws of the game.

In addition, Crusader sophomore Rayonna Pollvogt was named 2nd team All-American by the LAAA.

Class of 2020Welcome, New Students!

We are excited to see how the class of Crusader freshmen has come together! Only a few openings remain in the Class of 2020; if you know of someone who may be interested in enrollment, let us know, or send them our way ASAP!

Our new students and families seem quite anxious to join the LHSN community and get involved in everything that goes on here. We encourage returning students and families to welcome them warmly and make them feel at home.

Just a few reminders of details that need to be taken care of if you haven’t already done so (with the person’s name to contact if you need any assistance):

• Schedule classes (Becky Klotzer)
• Take math placement test (Becky Klotzer)
• Schedule iPad orientation (Donna McFarland)

We look forward to seeing all new students on Thursday, August 11, at 7:55 a.m. for orientation. All the adults in the building want to make students feel at ease; encourage your student to ask for help if he or she needs it.

physicalsSports Physicals for Returning* Students

All students planning to play sports anytime during the 2016-2017 school year must have a current physical (dated after Feb. 1, 2016) to try out, practice, or play. This is a state requirement each year.

Once again, LHSN is offering the opportunity to get a physical here at Lutheran North. Dr. Tony Miller with Esquire Sports Medicine will be completing sports physicals at Lutheran North on Tuesday, July 19 from 11:00 to 3:00 in room 111. Cost for a physical is $20, payable by cash or check made payable to Esquire Sports Medicine.

*Note: All incoming freshmen and transfer students need to obtain their physicals from their private physicians.

Award of ExcellenceMSHSAA Awards

Lutheran North is proud to announce that five spring sports teams earned Scholastic Achievement Awards from the Missouri State High School Activities Association. Qualifying for “Outstanding” recognition with a collective team GPA above 3.25 were the Girls’ Track, JV Baseball, and Boys’ Tennis teams. “Distinguished” honors with a team GPA between 3.0 and 3.24 were earned by the Boys’ Track and Girls’ Soccer teams.

All of these Crusaders have successfully balanced academics and extracurricular activities. Way to go, Crusader athletes!

Help Us Find the Right Host Families

Lutheran North is looking for families to host our international students in their homes. Hosting an international student is a life-changing experience, and host families are rewarded with a $750 monthly stipend. With your help, we hope to give international students the chance to have their lives changed by God by receiving a Lutheran education here in St. Louis. Int.Stu

If you are not able to host a student, you can still help these students by finding qualified host families for them! Please encourage your friends and neighbors to contact LPI. Prospective host families should mention your name to make you eligible for the $500 incentive. Only families who complete the registration process and become hosts of an international student will earn the incentive.

To start the process of becoming a host family, call Jessica Pignataro at LPI at (203) 680-9982.
