Spring Concerts-May 1 & 3

On Monday evening, May 1, bands from our Lutheran elementary schools will combine to play several selections in the Lutheran North gym beginning at 7:00 p.m. This concert experience is exciting for the middle school band students taught by Mrs. Rusnak and Mr. Scheller.

Also on Monday, immediately following the middle school concert, Lutheran North’s bands will showcase their talent in a variety of pieces, representing multiple styles and genres.

On Wednesday, May 3, a choral concert will feature the Crusader Chorus and Concentus, as well as the String Ensemble. Note that this concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., due to LHSN baseball games that day.

All the music performed in both concerts is taken from popular movies and shows. No admission is charged for these concerts and the public is invited. Please come, sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful music!

National Honor Society Inductees

Twenty-six students selected for the Crusader Chapter of the National Honor Society were inducted in a ceremony on April 25. The new inductees include juniors Theodore Laesch and Henry Nguyen, and sophomores Siyanbola Animashaun, Ethan Bazan, Brandon Campbell, Aaron Fackler, Ainsley Geiger, Anthony Hampton, Leah Hodges, Joshua Hopkins, Alleson Huntspon, Joseph Jolly, Secondo Kaka, Jonah Koch, Katie Laffold, Jessica Molden, Kyndall Oliver, Zachary Roeglin, Ariana Ross, Rebecca Roth, Kadar Rudd, Kaitlyn Schuh, Grace Sprivey, Isaac Stout, Jalen White, and Tom Xu.

To be eligible for membership, students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2. Members are evaluated by the faculty and must meet high standards of leadership, service, and character. Total membership of the Crusader NHS is now 90 students. Congratulations to these outstanding Crusaders!

Scholar Athlete

Congratulations to Lloyd Abernathy on being named LHSN’s St. Louis Post Dispatch Scholar Athlete for 2017. Besides excelling in academics with a 3.77 GPA, Lloyd played Crusader baseball for 4 years and basketball for 2 years. Additionally, he is a member of TREND, the Robotics Team, HiSTEP, and NHS.

Eagle Scout Projects

Two Crusader seniors completed Eagle Scout projects this year and greatly benefited Lutheran North in the process!

Eric Webster designed and constructed a rack to hold the whole collection of drama lights. In addition, he completely reorganized the drama closet. Serving as project supervisor, Eric enlisted the help of a few other Crusaders and, together, they made order out of chaos.

Cory Keathley
knew that the band room could use some organizing, also, so he drew up plans and built and installed a large shelving unit to hold instruments. Now the band room has “a place for everything and everything in its place” thanks to Cory!

Field Trip to Mid-America Transplant

Students in Ms. Renaud’s PE and Safety Response class took a trip to Mid-America Transplant this week. A presentation regarding the importance of organ and tissue donations impressed the kids. Then, after dressing in sterile gowns, the students were engaged in a tour of the facility.

Crusaders privileged to have this experience were Lloyd Abernathy, Ashleigh Adams, Shannon Ambler, Precious Clark, Grayson Knight, Chase Martin, and Jared Remspecher.

Thrills & Skills at Six Flags

Mr. Wittler’s physics students put their knowledge to work at Six Flags last Friday. The class had spent the prior week studying amusement park rides and the physics concepts associated with them. Then at “Physics Day at Six Flags” they collected data from various roller coasters and circular motion rides. Students wore a data collection vest on Mr. Freeze that measured all the various forces experienced on the ride. Upon leaving the ride they got a printout of those forces to be analyzed later.

This is definitely an experience that the physics classes at LHSN look forward to every year. They were glad the showers that day didn’t stop the rides and fun!

It’s Time for Caps & Gowns

Seniors will receive their graduation cap and gown (to keep!) on Thursday, May 4 at 3:00. Also at that time, each senior will be given ten admission tickets to the graduation ceremony. Ten is the maximum number available. Anyone who does not need all ten is encouraged to share with someone who could use more than ten.

Please note that all fines and fees must be paid and all athletic and music uniforms must be turned in before the graduation materials can be given out.

 Crusaders Put Faith in Action

This twice-a-year activity is a unique learning experience for our students. They do things they’ve never done before, show Christian love for their “neighbor,” and get to enjoy the good feeling that comes from helping others.

Scripture Verse

“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” – John 20:29

Cross Copy Weekly – Apr. 13, 2017

 Principal’s Posting

The days leading up to our Savior’s death were filled with many different emotions for both Jesus and those around Him. The joy and excitement of Palm Sunday, the anger directed at the money changers in the temple, the love given in the last supper, disappointment as the disciples slept in the Garden of Gethsemane, and of course the pain and suffering on the cross.

We, too, experience each of these emotions. Over the next few days, I pray that you reflect on the eternal gifts given to us in the Lord’s Supper, the sorrow of Good Friday, and the incredible joy of Easter Sunday and the resurrection. Take time to thank and praise God for His many blessings, but most especially, His gifts of forgiveness and eternal life!

Signings

Senior track athletes Andrew Parker and Bryce Pease have signed to run track at the next level. Andrew signed with Missouri Valley and Bryce with Southeast Missouri State.

Andrew and Bryce are a good portion of the nucleus of the ’17 Crusader Track Squad. Both are long sprinters who have done a terrific job in growing up on the track and in the classroom during their tenure here as Crusaders. We wish them well!

Mr. LHSN Results

The judging is finished, the votes are in, and Mr. LHSN 2017 is Eric Webster! We commend all the contestants for putting their best foot forward during the competition. Here, Olaoluwa Animashaun strikes a pose in formal wear.

Special thanks to Mr. Lorenz and Student Council for their efforts in making the pageant a fun and successful event. Lastly, thank you to everyone who came to support all the guys in their quest for the title of Mr. LHSN, and support Special Olympics as well.

April 19 –
Special Schedule

Juniors will take an official ACT.
 Seniors have the day off.
See the attached letter for all the details.

Leadership Retreat for Juniors

All Crusader juniors will attend the Senior Leadership Retreat on Monday, April 24, at Camp Wartburg in Waterloo, Illinois. Juniors must be at school by 7:15 am to depart for Wartburg and will return by 5:15 pm.

This is a day of fun for the students who are about to be seniors! Juniors will spend the day in the great outdoors learning, growing, team building, and challenging themselves, while focusing on the leadership characteristics of MODEL the way, INSPIRE a shared vision, ENABLE others to act, CHALLENGE the process, and ENCOURAGE the heart. Juniors will also elect their senior class officers and receive their leadership t-shirts.

Dress for the day is jeans, tennis shoes, and an LHSN uniform shirt (and jacket as needed). Students will participate in outside activities regardless of the weather and should dress appropriately.

Students should look forward to a rewarding day filled with fun, growth and bonding! Permission slips were given to students two weeks ago and should be returned as soon as possible. There is no additional charge for this opportunity.

“Let there be Light”

LHSN cannot create light (only God can do that), but we have upgraded the lighting in the cafeteria! Over spring break, LED lights were installed in the Crusader Cafe’. This project benefits LHSN in multiple ways – broken fixtures were replaced, overall lighting has been improved, and we are saving money! Not only were we privileged to take advantage of rebates through Ameren, but we will recoup our initial investment in about a year and enjoy better, more economical lighting from now on.

The plan is to continue to upgrade to LED lighting throughout the building over time. Our intent is always to maintain and improve our facilities, while being good financial stewards. This project is an example of that!
