Chamber of Commerce
Student of the Month

Congratulations to Rachel Winkler on being recognized as a “Student of the Month” by the Maryland Heights Chamber of Commerce. Rachel was honored at the Chamber luncheon held March 12 at Syberg’s.

UMSL Bridge Program

Twelve Crusaders successfully completed the 2016-2017 Bridge Program Saturday Academy held on the UMSL campus the first two Saturdays of the month from October through February. The Academy offers academic enrichment courses in math, science, and communication, as well as career research, personal and professional development, college planning, and ACT preparation.

The program concluded with a recognition ceremony on March 4 at the America’s Center. Congratulations to the following Crusaders who were recognized: freshmen Deaven Crigler, Fred Davis, and Anyah Pearson; sophomores Brandon Campbell, Natashia Davis, and Mitchell Franklin; juniors Joshua Gray, Zairai Moore, Marcus Smith, and Alida Theard; seniors Gabriel Peppers and Adel Tagash.

 Crusaders Put Faith in Action

On April 13, all Crusader students and faculty went out into the community to serve those in need in a variety of ways. Over 300 faith-filled Crusaders spread out to 17 places including churches, nursing homes, childcare centers, food pantries, and parks.

This twice-a-year activity is a unique learning experience for our students. They do things they’ve never done before, show Christian love for their “neighbor,” and get to enjoy the good feeling that comes from helping others.

Attention: Parents of Juniors

All Crusader juniors will travel to Camp Wartburg in Illinois on Monday, April 24 for their Senior Leadership Retreat. It is imperative that all juniors be at Lutheran North by 7:15 am to board the bus, which will return by 5:15 pm.

Dress for the day is jeans, tennis shoes, and an LHSN uniform shirt (and jacket as needed). Everyone will participate in outdoor activities regardless of the weather and should dress accordingly.

Crusader Summer Academy

So many camps! So many choices! Crusader Summer Academy is for kids going into grades 1 through 8, and 9th graders enrolled at LHSN. Take advantage of an early bird discount of $10 per camp when registration and payment are received by April 28!

Inducted into Hall of Fame

Mr. Mike Russell, former LHSN Athletic Director and coach, was recently inducted into the Greater St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. Mike served as Lutheran North’s Head Baseball Coach for over 40 years, during which time the Crusaders achieved 16 District Championships, 7 Sectional Championships, and 6 ABC League Championships.

Along with this most recent honor, Mike is a member of the 500 Victories Club of the National High School Baseball Coaches Association and is in the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Twice, he was presented the Coach of the Year Award by the Greater St. Louis Association of Umpires. Mike is also a member of the Missouri Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, winning 4 State Championships in 24 years of coaching Crusader football.

As a coach and as A.D., Mike was the epitome of good sportsman-ship, fairness, and integrity. He gained the respect of students, players, officials, and colleagues alike.
