TJ’s Pizza & Dessert Sale
Parents! Ask your students to show you the order form and letter that is being sent home with them today (Friday).
The LHSN Music Department is sponsoring a TJ’s Pizza, Dessert and Cookie Dough sale. We encourage you to share the form with your friends, family, and co-workers. Return the form – with payment – by Monday, Sept. 25. Checks should be payable to LHSN. Orders are picked up on Tuesday, Oct. 10, between 3:00 and 6:00 in the Counseling Center.
Sales initiatives include 1 FREE item for every 10 items sold and the LHSN student who sells the most items (must be 40 or more) will receive JBL Wireless Sport Headphones! All other students selling 35 or more items will be entered in a drawing for a Kindle Fire. See the letter stapled to the form for details.
Be sure to include your name and phone number on the front of the order form, and list your free product choices also on the front.
The LHSN community enjoyed our observations of the Great American Eclipse last week. We were able to view the eclipse when the moon covered about 25% of the sun in the early stages of the event. We viewed the eclipse when 99.9% of the sun was covered. We viewed the eclipse again in the late stages and saw the moon covering about 33% of the sun. The LHSN community noted a number of other details at the maximum stage of the eclipse. It seemed to be somewhat cooler at the time. We noticed a definite reduction in light and then increasing light as the eclipse moved on past the maximum stage. We noted chimney swifts gathering in the sky as if evening was occurring. We heard cicadas beginning to sing. A report was made of an owl hooting to our north. We saw Venus to the west of the covered sun. We noted a sunset effect on the horizon even though it was only 1:18 in the afternoon. Several people noted crescent shaped shadows under trees.
Senior Ted Laesch and Mr. Kersten collected data on temperature fluctuations and light intensity fluctuations throughout the day. We purposely placed our temperature sensor in direct sunlight and recorded the temperature fall from 36.6°C (97.9°F) to 29.8°C (85.6°F). That represents a drop of 12.3°F during the eclipse. Pretty amazing! A graph of the temperature vs. time is shown.
We also saw a drop in light intensity from approximately 70,000 lumens/meter2 to 50 lumens/meter2 and then an increase after the eclipse to 85,000 lumens/meter2. This graph shows the drop.
We were glad to have a chance to see the majesty and might of our God in action in the sky above us. We live in a tremendous creation and it is fun to learn about it!
